Tilmicosin

Composition

Each ml solution contains Tilmicosin 250 mg.

Description

Avitil Vet contains tilmicosin, a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis. It exerts primarily bacteriostatic activity, which may become bactericidal at high concentrations. This antibacterial spectrum is predominantly active against Gram-positive microorganisms, as well as select Gram-negative bacteria and Mycoplasma species of bovine, porcine, ovine, and avian origin. In particular, antimicrobial activity has been demonstrated against the following pathogens: *Mycoplasma gallisepticum* and *Mycoplasma synoviae* in chickens and turkeys, and *Mannheimia haemolytica*, *Pasteurella multocida*, *Mycoplasma bovis*, and *Mycoplasma dispar* in calves.

Macrolides act synergistically with the host immune system by enhancing phagocyte-mediated bacterial killing. Cross-resistance between tilmicosin, other macrolides, and lincomycin has been observed.
