Composition

Each ml injection contains Drotaverine Hydrochloride INN 20 mg.

Indications

Animals:

Espa-Vet is indicated as an antispastic in the adjuvant treatment of digestive conditions including abdominal colic, gastric or duodenal ulcer, gastritis, enteritis, colitis, pancreatitis, spastic constipation, meteorism, spasms of the cardia and pyloric sphincter, spasms of biliary smooth muscles, biliary lithiasis, and cholecystitis in dogs, cats, horses, and cattle.
The formulation is additionally used for spasms of urinary tract smooth muscles such as renal and urethral lithiasis, pyelitis, and cystitis.
It is also applied in the management of genital disorders including uterine tetanic contractions, severe pains, and imminent abortion.
The spasmolytic action of the product further provides effective pain relief up to complete alleviation.

Dosage & Administration

Route of Administration: IM, SC, or slow IV.

Horses & Cattle: 160–200 mg active substance (8–10 ml) IM or SC 2–3 times/day (in acute colic: slow IV 8 ml; repeat 2–3 times/day IM or SC).
Dog: 1–2 ml IM or SC 1–2 times/day.
Cat: 0.5–1 ml IM or SC 1–2 times/day.

Interaction

Levodopa anti-Parkinsonian effect may be decreased.

Contraindications

Severe hepatic, renal, or cardiac failure.

Side Effects

Arterial blood pressure may drop following too rapid intravenous injection.

Pregnancy & Lactation

There is no known case of teratogenicity in animal studies. However, the use of Drotaverine should be avoided during pregnancy and lactation.

Precautions & Warnings

This drug is not to be administered to horses that are to be slaughtered for use in food. The administration is carried out only by the veterinarian or under his supervision If administering by intravenous route, inject the product very slowly. Administer during pregnancy and lactation only after previous assessment of the risk/benefit therapeutic ratio.
