Composition

Each gram Doxacil Vet powder contains Doxycycline HCl BP equivalent to 100 mg Doxycycline.

Description

Doxacil-Vet contains doxycycline, a member of the tetracycline class of antimicrobials. Doxycycline binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, interfering with the binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the mRNA-ribosome complex. This action inhibits bacterial protein synthesis in growing and multiplying microorganisms, resulting in a bacteriostatic effect, while higher concentrations can achieve bactericidal activity.

Indications

Poultry:

Doxacil-Vet is indicated for the prevention and treatment of Chronic Respiratory Disease (CRD), Infectious Coryza, Colibacillosis, Fowl cholera, Fowl typhoid, Infectious synovitis, Mycoplasmosis, Salmonellosis, Chlamydiosis, and Necrotic enteritis.
The formulation is additionally effective against local and systemic infections caused by gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, protozoa, rickettsiae, and mycoplasma.

Large Animals:

Doxacil-Vet is indicated in the treatment of primary and secondary respiratory infections caused by *Pasteurella haemolytica*, *Pasteurella multocida*, *Actinobacillus* species, *Bordetella bronchoseptica*, *Streptococcus*, and *Mycoplasma* species.
The formulation also provides relief from pyoderma caused by *Staphylococcus*, otitis media, prostatitis, and calf scours.

Dosage & Administration

Route of Administration: Oral via drinking water or body weight dosing.

Poultry (Treatment): 1 g / 2 L of drinking water for 3–7 days.
Poultry (Early Mortality Prevention): 1 g / 4 L of drinking water for 3–4 days.
Large Animals: 15–30 mg/kg body weight for 3–7 days.

Contraindications: Tetracycline hypersensitivity; pregnant or lactating dogs/cats.

Interaction

Should not be taken with antacids, other alkalis eg calcium, magnesium and iron; penicillin, anticoagulants and anticonvulsants.

Side Effects

At recommended doses, the drug is well tolerated, and the side effects are almost nil. Overdosing on doxycycline in veal calves can occasionally lead to degeneration of the heart muscle.

Store in a cool and dry place. Protect from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
